Boniface Kariuki, a mask vendor who was shot in the head by police during protests in Nairobi's Central Business District on June 17, 2025, was laid to rest in Kangema, Murang’a County on July 11, 2025. His body arrived at his parents' home in Kangema before the burial commenced at Kanda grounds in Iyego, Kangema Constituency. Ahead of the funeral, police officers armed with batons were stationed near Kangema junction as mourners gathered. Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata publicly demanded justice for Kariuki's death, attributing responsibility to the state. The burial proceedings were marked by visible grief among attendees.
