The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a total fine exceeding $100,000 (approximately Ksh 12 million) on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) due to repeated security breaches during the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN) held at Nairobi's Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani Stadium. The latest penalty of $50,000 (Ksh 6.5 million) followed incidents during Kenya's match against Morocco, adding to an earlier $15,000 fine. CAF has criticized the Kenyan organizers for serious lapses in stadium security and has issued warnings that continued failures could result in the relocation of Kenya's home matches. In response, the Kenyan government has designated six official viewing areas in Nairobi for Harambee Stars fans to enhance security measures. FKF officials acknowledge the challenges in enforcing fan discipline at this stage of the competition and are considering measures such as relocating fans several kilometers from the stadium for security checks. CAF has urged FKF to implement urgent corrective actions to address the safety concerns ahead of upcoming fixtures.
Sammy Shollei: For this particular competition, it is going to be difficult to instill discipline in the fans because it is too late. If we can bring them in and then we station them about 5km away from the stadium so that whoever is coming to the stadium has to be checked from https://t.co/IdKZwX9YRK
