Kenya’s Nelly Chepchirchir produced the highlight of the Monaco Diamond League meeting, clocking 2:29.77 in the women’s 1,000 metres to become only the fourth athlete in history to break the 2-minute-30 barrier. The 21-year-old’s performance ranks No. 4 on the world all-time list. American Addy Wiley followed her across the line in 2:30.71, trimming her own national record, while Australia’s Jessica Hull set an Oceania record of 2:30.96 in third place. The evening also delivered a world-leading mark in the men’s 800 metres, where Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya won in 1:41.44. In the women’s 400 metres, Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino edged U.S. sprinter Aaliyah Butler on the lean, with both credited with 49.06.
