The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved murder charges against six individuals, including Central Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Samson Talaam, Police Constables James Mukhwana and Peter Kimani, and civilians John Gitau, Gin Abwao, and Brian Njue, in connection with the death of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang while in police custody. The suspects are expected to take plea on the charges and have denied the allegations, with the DPP opposing their release on bond due to the seriousness of the offence. Separately, the DPP has also approved murder charges against police officer Klinzy Masinde Barasa for fatally shooting 22-year-old mask vendor Boniface Kariuki Mwangi in Nairobi on June 17, 2025. Barasa appeared before the Milimani High Court to face the charges, while his colleague Duncan Kiprono was released without charges. In another case, police officer Isaiah Murangiri Ndumba has denied involvement in the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Rex Masai during the June 18, 2024 Gen-Z protests, despite photographic and phone data evidence placing him at the scene. Murangiri maintains he was off duty at the time, and the inquest continues amid conflicting evidence.
