Isaiah Murangiri Ndumba, a police officer accused of fatally shooting 29-year-old Rex Masai during the June 18, 2024 Gen-Z protests in Nairobi, has denied all allegations of involvement. Despite photographic and video evidence showing a police officer at the scene, as well as Safaricom phone data placing Murangiri near the Intercontinental Hotel on the day of the incident, Murangiri maintains that he was off duty and not the individual seen in the footage. During the ongoing inquest into Masai's death, former Nairobi Central Police Deputy County Inspector (DCIO) Tiberius Ekisa testified that he neither knew Murangiri nor issued any shoot-to-kill orders to him, stating that Murangiri was not under his command. Ekisa also noted that no bullets linked to the shooting were recovered and that the exact location of the shooting remains unclear. Murangiri continues to be the main suspect in the case, which has drawn significant public and media attention.
