Former Lands Commissioner and one-time Baringo Central lawmaker Sammy Silas Komen Mwaita was arraigned at Nairobi’s Milimani Law Courts on Monday over an alleged scheme to forge title deeds for two prime plots in Nairobi West valued at about Ksh150 million. Prosecutors said the offences were committed on or before 30 March 2001, when Mwaita was in public office. Mwaita faces multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit a felony, creating documents without authority, two counts of abuse of office and two counts of providing false information to public officers. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a Ksh10 million bond, with an alternative cash bail of Ksh2 million, secured by two sureties. Co-accused Brian Kiptoo Kiplangat did not appear for plea-taking; Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi ordered him to present himself to the court on Tuesday. The case adds to a series of high-profile graft prosecutions targeting alleged land frauds in Kenya’s public sector.
