Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Wanjiku Kihara was arrested on July 17, 2025, by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at her home in Maraigushu, Naivasha. The arrest followed her failure to honor summons to appear before the DCI regarding allegations of incitement. She was initially held at the Naivasha police station before being transferred to the DCI headquarters in Nairobi for questioning. Kihara's arrest has been linked to her political association with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The MP was presented in Milimani court after spending a night in police custody and faced charges related to incitement, specifically concerning inflammatory remarks made during the funeral of Boniface Kariuki. She was subsequently released on a personal bond of Ksh. 50,000. Separately, in Kilifi County, authorities have intensified investigations into a suspected cult in Binzaro Village following the rescue of several individuals and the recovery of two human skulls and a body. Three arrests have been made in connection with this case, which is being examined for possible links to the notorious Shakahola cult responsible for over 400 deaths. Additionally, a 2019 ferry tragedy in Likoni that resulted in the deaths of a mother and daughter remains under investigation as CCTV footage related to the incident has raised new questions.
