The family of Hussein Abdirahman Mohamed—head of the Wajir Huduma Centre and an Assistant County Commissioner—has filed an urgent habeas corpus petition in Kenya’s High Court after his unexplained disappearance last week. Court documents state that Mohamed was last seen on 8 July during an official function attended by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku. A missing-person report lodged at Sojir Police Station has yielded no leads, and relatives say they have received no information from security agencies five days after he vanished. Through lawyer Danstan Omari, the family is asking the court to compel the police and other state bodies to produce Mohamed, dead or alive, or disclose his whereabouts by 14 July. The petition argues that the official may be being held incommunicado, in violation of constitutional safeguards on personal liberty.
