Kenyan blogger and tech entrepreneur Ndiang'ui Kinyagia disappeared on June 21, 2025, sparking a national outcry and allegations of police involvement. The High Court, led by Justice Chacha Mwita, ordered Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to produce Kinyagia or explain his whereabouts. The DCI denied holding the blogger despite raiding his home and confiscating computers, stating he was a person of interest due to his involvement in programming protests scheduled for June 25. After 13 days, Kinyagia resurfaced in court, revealing he had gone into hiding for fear of arrest. The High Court barred police from arresting him and ordered DCI director Mohamed Amin to appear in court to explain the disappearance. Following his reappearance, Kinyagia was summoned to the DCI headquarters for questioning. His legal team, led by Martha Karua, continues to represent him. The court has given Kinyagia 14 days to file an affidavit explaining his disappearance, with a hearing set for September 16, 2025. Separately, Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi was charged with unlawful possession of ammunition related to last month's protests that left at least 19 dead. Mwangi was released on a Sh1 million personal bond, denying the charges and alleging government attempts on his life.
