Kenya's Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, issued multiple warnings ahead of the June 25, 2025 protests, urging demonstrators, particularly those from the Gen Z demographic, to avoid provocative actions and stay away from protected areas including State House. He assured the public that police would maintain security and protect lives and businesses during the demonstrations. During the protests, firearms including AK-47 rifles were stolen from the Dagoretti police station but later recovered in Kabete and Kikuyu, with at least one arrest made in connection to the stolen weapons. Following the unrest, authorities arrested 485 individuals linked to the protests, charging 448 with serious offenses such as incitement, murder, terrorism, rape, arson, and destruction of state infrastructure, while 37 cases remained under investigation. In Nyandarua County, 19 suspects related to protest violence in Olkalou were released on personal bonds of KES 100,000 each, with cases set for review on July 21, 2025. Additional suspects were arraigned in Thika, Kiambu County, with 85 presented before courts. Three activists—John Mulingwa Nzau, Mark Amiani, and Mutunge Mwangi—accused of organizing the protests were released on KES 200,000 cash bail each, with court mentions scheduled for July 23. The Democracy for the Citizens Party youth leader in Kiambu, Peter Kinyanjui alias Kawanjiru, initially arrested in connection with arson at Kiambu Law Courts, was re-arrested by anti-terror police shortly after being granted bond. Furthermore, 24 individuals arrested during Saba Saba protests in Narok County were released on bail ranging from KES 5,000 to KES 20,000. The courts detained 35 Gen Z suspects and allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua until July 10 pending decisions on terrorism charges related to the torching of government buildings in Kikuyu during the June 25 protests. Health Cabinet Secretary Kagwe called for protection of the Agricultural Society of Kenya showgrounds amid the unrest.
