Kenya’s Ministry of Labour has announced an intensified nationwide crackdown on fraudulent recruitment agents accused of exploiting citizens seeking jobs abroad. Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua said he convened a high-level meeting on 15 July with several government institutions to coordinate actions against individuals and agencies that pose as licensed recruiters, collect fees from job-seekers and then disappear. The operation will focus on identifying, investigating and prosecuting the networks involved, Mutua added, warning that the criminal enterprise threatens gains made in expanding safe and legal labour-migration pathways for Kenyan youth. Victims have been urged to file complaints in person at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Building, seventh floor, starting Thursday, to aid ongoing investigations.
