Kenya’s Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok on Thursday called for the immediate arrest and interdiction of Alliance Girls High School teacher Peter Ayiro after an investigative report and alumni protests alleged years of sexual abuse and grooming of students at the elite boarding school. Bitok said the Ministry of Education is working with the Teachers Service Commission and police to remove the long-serving teacher from the classroom and pursue criminal charges, stressing that the government "will not condone" any educator who exploits learners. His remarks followed demonstrations outside the school by former students demanding accountability. The allegations were detailed in an Africa Uncensored exposé citing more than two dozen former students, staff and teachers who described Ayiro arranging private dinners and using his position as Christian Union patron to initiate sexual relationships, with complaints reportedly filed as early as 2018. Alumni advocates say the school’s management prioritised its reputation over student safety, and they are considering legal action. An ad-hoc committee comprising the Ministry, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers, the school’s parent-teacher association and alumni has begun investigations and is expected to submit a report next week. Women’s rights group FIDA-Kenya has offered legal and psychosocial support to survivors and urged swift systemic reforms to protect students nationwide.
