The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya temporarily suspended its voter verification portal for critical system maintenance as part of a migration to new infrastructure aimed at enhancing system performance and security. The maintenance led to a days-long outage, which prompted public concern and criticism over the timing and lack of prior notice in the politically sensitive environment. Throughout the downtime, the IEBC assured Kenyans that voter registration details remained secure and intact. The portal was restored and fully operational by July 8, allowing voters to resume checking their registration information online. Following the restoration, guidance on how to verify voter registration details online was disseminated to the public.
