President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Democratic Senator Adam Schiff of mortgage fraud and said the California lawmaker should be “brought to justice.” Posting on his social-media platform, Trump claimed a federal housing investigation had uncovered a years-long scheme in which Schiff misrepresented his primary residence to secure favorable loan terms. A July 14 memorandum from Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division, cited by Fox News and confirmed by Reuters, concluded that Schiff and his wife engaged in “a sustained pattern of possible occupancy misrepresentation” on five Fannie-backed mortgages between 2009 and 2020. The review centers on a Potomac, Maryland, house the couple bought in 2003 for roughly $870,000 and refinanced multiple times while Schiff also claimed a Burbank, California, condominium as a principal home. The Federal Housing Finance Agency forwarded the findings to the Justice Department in May, according to people familiar with the matter, but the department, Fannie Mae and FHFA all declined to comment. No criminal charges have been filed. Schiff rejected the allegations as “baseless political retaliation,” saying lenders were aware he occupies both properties because of his duties in Washington and his voting district in California. The clash extends a years-long feud that began when Schiff led Trump’s first impeachment in 2020.

“No, it looks like Adam Schiff really did a bad thing. They have him. Now, let’s see what happens. It’s not up to me.... But it’s mortgage loan fraud. It’s a big deal." It's time for the two-tiered system of justice to END. Democrats are not "above the law." https://t.co/L1l1hN4Ugr
