Racing Football Club Union Luxembourg has hired former Brazilian striker Brandao as head coach of its under-23 squad, giving the 45-year-old his first job as a No. 1 manager. The appointment was announced on 2 July. Brandao ended a 17-year professional playing career in 2018 after spells with Olympique de Marseille, AS Saint-Étienne, SC Bastia, Shakhtar Donetsk and Levadiakos, tallying close to 500 appearances and more than 160 goals. Since retiring he has worked as an assistant at Londrina EC in Brazil and at Belgian third-tier side Virton while completing UEFA coaching licences. The Luxembourg side, formed in 2005 and competing in the semi-professional BGL League, sees the former forward’s top-flight experience in France and Ukraine as a boost for its development squad. Brandao’s first task will be to prepare the U23 team for the 2025-26 campaign, where the club aims to continue feeding talent to its senior roster.
