Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno, leader of Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), has filed a formal complaint with Mexico's Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) accusing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of alleged ties to organized crime and Mexican drug cartels. The complaint highlights Maduro's purported connections with criminal organizations and political figures in Mexico. Separately, the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced sanctions against four individuals and 13 companies in Mexico linked to timeshare fraud schemes orchestrated by the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), a cartel described as a terrorist organization responsible for trafficking fentanyl into the United States. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized the U.S. commitment to targeting violent drug cartels like CJNG. These sanctions aim to disrupt the cartel's financial networks and warn American citizens about fraud risks in tourist destinations.
