Alejandro Moreno, national leader of Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), has accused the ruling Morena party of conducting a "brutal political persecution" against him. The Fiscalía Especializada en Combate a la Corrupción de Campeche filed a new request for his desafuero (removal of legislative immunity), which was officially received by the Sección Instructora of the Chamber of Deputies. Previously, a desafuero request from 2022 related to alleged illicit enrichment was dismissed by the same legislative body. Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Morena, criticized Moreno for threatening to report President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and other Morena officials to the FBI and DEA. Ricardo Monreal, a legislator, supported Sheinbaum's statements and called for the Sección Instructora to analyze the new desafuero request. Hugo Eric Flores, president of the Sección Instructora, announced that the desafuero issue will be reviewed within August, with the Campeche Fiscalía's accusations being a determining factor. Separately, the National Action Party (PAN) proposed the creation of a special commission to investigate Morena's spokesperson in San Lázaro, Arturo Ávila, over alleged corruption. Additionally, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, Morena's Secretary of Organization, publicly denounced political espionage, harassment, and a smear campaign against him related to his personal trip to Tokyo, Japan, asserting he used his own funds for the vacation.
