Colombian pop star Maluma abruptly stopped his 10 August concert at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes after spotting a woman in the crowd holding a baby estimated to be one year old and wearing no ear protection. Addressing the fan from the stage before roughly 20,000 spectators, he asked, “Con todo el respeto, ¿usted cree que es una buena idea traer un bebé de un año a un concierto donde los decibeles están tan altos?” and called the decision “an act of irresponsibility.” The singer, who became a father last year, added in Spanish and English that the child “doesn’t even know what it’s doing here” and urged the mother to protect the infant’s ears in the future. He also criticised her for “swinging [the baby] around like a toy,” drawing applause from the audience before resuming the show. Footage of the exchange spread quickly on social media, sparking debate over whether young children should attend loud live events. The incident occurred during Maluma’s +Pretty +Dirty World Tour, which continues in Mexico with performances scheduled for Monterrey on 13 August and Guadalajara on 15–16 August.
