Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum hosted Baker Hughes President and Chief Executive Officer Lorenzo Simonelli at the National Palace on 14 July. Energy Secretary Luz Elena González joined the talks, along with senior Baker Hughes executives responsible for Latin America and growth strategy. Sheinbaum said the U.S. energy-technology company sees “confidence in our country” and discussed Baker Hughes’ current and planned investments in Mexico, which range from oil-field services to low-carbon technologies. Neither side disclosed figures, but González noted that the meeting signaled private-sector appetite for expanding energy projects on both sides of the border. Baker Hughes has operated in Mexico for more than seven decades and has recently sought to deepen its portfolio in gas processing and geothermal services. The encounter also drew attention because the firm was previously mentioned in a 2022 controversy over a rental property linked to the family of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, though no wrongdoing was proven. Officials did not address that episode, focusing instead on future collaboration.
