Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has welcomed the reduction of the remittance tax from 3.5% to 1%, a change enacted by U.S. senators. Sheinbaum described this as a victory for Mexican migrants and announced that the Mexican government will implement a reimbursement mechanism for the 1% tax on cash remittances. Additionally, Sheinbaum introduced the FINABIEN card to facilitate easier sending and receiving of remittances without the tax. Meanwhile, the Tren Maya project, inaugurated during former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's administration, has transported over 1.3 million passengers in 7,290 trips, representing a 74% increase in 2025 compared to the previous year. The Tren Maya is currently operating at maximum capacity and is considered profitable by Sheinbaum, although its director, General Óscar David Lozano Águila, admitted to not knowing the total cost of the project. The government has launched ten vacation packages related to the Tren Maya, priced between 17,000 and 24,821 pesos per person, including hotel stays and flights from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). The infrastructure for Tren Maya freight is expected to be completed within 18 months. In other economic news, Grupo Bimbo announced an investment exceeding $2 billion between 2025 and 2028 to expand production capacity and innovate, including modernizing its electric fleet and adopting recyclable packaging. This investment is expected to create 2,000 direct jobs and over 10,800 indirect jobs across several Mexican states.
