The Israeli military said Master Sgt. (res.) Avraham Azulay, a 25-year-old heavy-engineering operator from the West Bank settlement of Yitzhar, was shot dead on 9 July during an attempted Hamas abduction near Khan Younis in southern Gaza. According to a preliminary IDF investigation, militants surfaced from a tunnel and tried to pull Azulay from the D9 armored bulldozer he was operating. The reservist resisted but was fatally wounded. Nearby Israeli troops opened fire, killing or wounding several assailants and preventing the kidnapping of either the soldier or his body. Azulay had logged more than 250 days of reserve duty since the war began and was married three months ago. His death raises the Israeli military’s losses in the conflict to at least 889 personnel, the army said.
Yesterday an Israeli soldier, a settler from Yitzhar, was killed and almost taken captive by Hamas in Khan Younis. Today, the Israeli army confirmed his death but chose to hide from you which unit he served in. Why? Because he was in Unit Uriah, the terrorist settler militia 👇 https://t.co/f2ecjLqKHe https://t.co/PhcqAgufOt

We mourn the loss of Master Sgt. (Res.) Abraham Azulay, 25, who was killed in combat in Gaza yesterday. Hamas terrorists tried to kidnap him. He fought back - and they murdered him. May his memory be a blessing. 🕯️ https://t.co/jniHdi0mmi
