Nearly 600 former senior Israeli security officials—including past chiefs of the Mossad, Shin Bet and Israel Defense Forces—have signed an open letter urging U.S. President Donald Trump to press Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end Israel’s war in Gaza. The signatories, organised under the Commanders for Israel’s Security movement, argue that Hamas no longer poses a strategic threat and that continued military operations are eroding Israel’s international standing. “You ended the war in Lebanon; it is time to do so in Gaza,” the letter states, asserting that Israel has already dismantled Hamas’s military and governing structures and that only a negotiated agreement can secure the release of remaining hostages. The group says Trump’s credibility among Israelis gives him unique leverage to influence Netanyahu’s government. The appeal adds to mounting domestic dissent. Opposition leader Yair Lapid said most Israelis “do not stand behind” the war’s objectives, while former military-intelligence chief Amos Yadlin warned the country risks a “deep strategic defeat” if fighting continues without a broader political plan.
