The Israel Defense Forces have arrested seven soldiers serving in the Arrow Air Defense Unit (Unit 136) on suspicion of sexually and physically assaulting junior recruits, according to Israeli media reports. Military police took the soldiers into custody on Tuesday and a military court extended their detention the following day, Yedioth Ahronoth and other outlets reported. Investigators allege the men raped and sodomised at least ten newcomers over several weeks, with some of the assaults occurring during recent hostilities with Iran. The IDF said a criminal investigation is under way and that the Military Advocate General will decide on possible indictments once evidence is compiled. The case follows a separate proceeding in which a military judge this week proposed mediation for five reservists accused of abusing a Palestinian detainee, underscoring mounting scrutiny of misconduct within the ranks.
