The Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday released video it says shows five armed militants wearing neon yellow vests and standing beside a vehicle bearing the World Central Kitchen logo in Deir al-Balah, Gaza. According to the military, the men were using the humanitarian group’s insignia to disguise themselves before an Israeli airstrike killed them late last week. An IDF spokesperson said real-time checks with World Central Kitchen confirmed the vehicle and personnel were not affiliated with the charity. The military alleges the fighters, whom several Israeli officials identified as Hamas operatives, posed a direct threat to nearby troops. World Central Kitchen, the food-relief organisation founded by chef José Andrés, said the individuals were not connected to its operations and condemned any attempt to impersonate aid workers, warning that such actions endanger civilians and relief staff.
