The Iran-linked hacking group Handala has claimed a full breach of the Iran International network, including its Telegram channels. The group asserts it accessed all sent messages and identified approximately 71,000 individuals who provided content to the opposition outlet. Iran International has confirmed that the leaked materials originate from two separate cyberattacks targeting its journalists' Telegram accounts, which occurred in the summer of 2024 and January 2025. The network acknowledged that hackers may have installed malware via Telegram accounts to compromise staff computers. Despite initially denying the hacking allegations, Iran International later admitted to being under cyberattack since mid-2024 but stated it had taken necessary measures to protect its employees and audience. Reports indicate the cyberattacks are linked to Iran's Ministry of Intelligence. The breach exposed sensitive information, including identities of those who contacted the network, which has been described as Israeli-backed by some sources. Iran International emphasized that the cyber threats will not disrupt its operations.
