Israeli military strikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people, including five journalists, during attacks near Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Among the journalists killed was Hussam al-Masri, a Reuters cameraman who was operating a live video feed at the hospital. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed they targeted a Hamas camera, a statement that Reuters reported but which has been widely questioned. The Committee to Protect Journalists' CEO Jodie Ginsberg stated that Israel targets journalists in Gaza, describing such actions as war crimes. Palestinian journalist Ahmed Deeb reported that over 200 journalists have been killed in Gaza, including five during the hospital attack that was conducted in two strikes. The Israeli military reportedly bombed the hospital twice, killing at least 15 others in addition to the journalists. An Israeli Instagram user, Rafael Hayun, allegedly urged the IDF to strike Nasser Hospital, accusing reporters there of collaborating with Hamas. The Journalists Syndicate held protests demanding protection for field journalists amid systematic targeting. The attacks have drawn condemnation from various media and human rights observers, who call for international intervention to ensure journalists' safety and access to Gaza. Additionally, a four-year-old child, Juri Lafi, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on displaced persons’ tents in Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis. The Israeli media has been criticized for both relying on Gaza journalists for information and for insufficiently addressing the killings of journalists since October 7.
When journalists report on Israel's genocidal starvation and killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, they aren't serving Hamas, as the Israeli government claims in diversionary fashion. They are serving the truth. https://t.co/c1PoPjlwFg
