U.S. singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey said in a 7 July Instagram comment that she “prays for Palestine every day,” calling the deaths of innocent civilians in the Israel-Palestinian conflict “heartbreaking” and reiterating her hope for a cease-fire and a lasting peace agreement. She added that she closely follows developments in the region and accepts that “there is never a good way of wording things that will make all people happy.” The remark came beneath a separate Instagram post in which Del Rey expressed sympathy for victims of the severe flash floods that swept central Texas beginning on 4 July. The storms have killed at least 95 people and left others missing, according to CNN figures cited by Billboard. “All of my prayers are with you every moment of the day,” she wrote, joining several musicians who have publicly addressed the disaster. Del Rey, an 11-time Grammy nominee, has previously faced scrutiny over her stance on the Middle East. In 2018 she postponed a planned performance at a Tel Aviv music festival after appeals from the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, saying she wished to perform in both Israel and Palestine to treat fans equally.
