Puerto Rican rapper René Pérez Joglar, known as Residente, has canceled his scheduled performances at two Spanish music festivals, the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim (FIB) and the Morriña Festival, due to their financial ties to the US-based investment fund KKR. KKR is reported to have connections with Israel's military and investments in Israeli military technology, which Residente associates with the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Palestine, including the occupation of the West Bank and the situation in Gaza. Residente cited his commitment to human rights and opposition to what he describes as cultural whitewashing of Israeli war crimes as reasons for his withdrawal. Following his lead, several other artists, including Judeline, Camellos, Mushkaa, and Jimena Amarillo, have also canceled their appearances at the FIB, citing political coherence and opposition to the festival's links with KKR. The FIB has faced controversy with at least seven artists withdrawing in protest. Additionally, the band Los Campesinos declined a $60,000 licensing deal with Airbnb in solidarity with Palestine. Residente has continued to publicly support the Palestinian cause, recently expressing his stance at the Pirata Festival in Valencia, Spain.
