Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid his first visit to Kibbutz Nir Oz since the 7 October 2023 Hamas assault, pledging that Israel will secure the return of every hostage still held in Gaza. Addressing residents of the community that saw the highest number of abductions, he said about 20 captives are believed to be alive and insisted, “we will bring them all back.” Netanyahu’s vow came as Israeli forces pressed operations across the enclave. Gaza’s civil defence agency said 73 Palestinians were killed on Thursday, including casualties from a strike on a school sheltering displaced families. The premier is due in Washington next week for talks with President Donald Trump, who says Israel has accepted the outline of a 60-day cease-fire that negotiators hope will open the way to a broader hostage-release deal.
