Qatar said indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas aimed at halting the war in Gaza remain under way in Doha, with mediators intensifying efforts but the process still in its first phase. “The meetings are ongoing and there is no deadlock,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari told reporters, adding that talks focus on reaching a framework agreement before moving to detailed bargaining. People briefed on the discussions told the Financial Times that the outline on the table calls for a two-month ceasefire linked to a large-scale exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and the start of “serious” negotiations on ending the conflict. The delegations from Israel and Hamas are meeting separately with Qatari, U.S. and Egyptian officials, who are shuttling between the sides to bridge remaining gaps. The negotiations resume against the backdrop of heavy fighting that has left about 58,300 Palestinians and 1,219 Israelis dead since Hamas’s 7 October 2023 attack, according to figures from Gaza’s health ministry and Israeli authorities. Israel says 49 of the roughly 250 hostages seized in that assault are still held in Gaza. While all parties acknowledge progress, diplomats caution there is no timetable for an agreement and warn that the talks could still collapse.
