Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry on 3 July issued a written statement "in the strongest terms" rejecting remarks by Israeli Cabinet ministers and politicians advocating the annexation of the occupied West Bank. Ankara said the comments were a clear attempt to entrench Israel’s occupation and breach international law. The condemnation follows a letter signed by 14 ministers from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud Party urging the government to "apply sovereignty" over the West Bank before the Knesset’s summer session ends on 27 July. The signatories include senior figures such as Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who argue the current political climate favours immediate annexation. Türkiye warned that the initiative undermines ongoing cease-fire efforts in Gaza and disregards long-standing international principles for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ankara reiterated its support for a two-state solution, calling for recognition of Palestinian rights and the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
