Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodríguez has withdrawn from next week’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Atlanta, saying he will use the break to recover and prepare for the season’s second half. Major League Baseball filled the roster spot with Rodríguez’s teammate Randy Arozarena, giving the 30-year-old outfielder his second career All-Star selection and making him the fifth Mexican-born player to reach the Midsummer Classic. Arozarena is hitting .247 with 15 home runs, 44 RBIs and 15 stolen bases, and is coming off a 10-game stretch in which he batted .297 with seven homers. Rodríguez, originally voted in by his peers, entered the break batting .247 with 11 homers and 15 steals but has slumped to a .122 average over his past 10 games. His exit and Arozarena’s promotion give Seattle five All-Stars for the first time since 2003. Pitchers Carlos Rodón, Carlos Estévez, Casey Mize and Drew Rasmussen, along with infielder Maikel Garcia, were also added to the American League squad as replacements for players unable to participate. The All-Star Game is scheduled for July 15 at Truist Park.
