The Washington Nationals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8–2 on Wednesday night, powered by three home runs and a solid outing from starter MacKenzie Gore. Nathaniel Lowe opened the scoring with a three-run shot down the right-field line in the first inning, his 14th homer of the season and 61st RBI. Amed Rosario and rookie James Wood added solo blasts later in the game to give Washington ample cushion. Gore limited St. Louis to two runs over six innings, throwing 89 pitches before turning the game over to the bullpen. The victory marked the first for Miguel Cairo since he was named the Nationals’ interim manager earlier this week.
