The Boston Red Sox beat the Washington Nationals 6–4 on Sunday at Nationals Park, completing a three-game sweep and climbing above .500 for the first time in nearly two weeks. It was Boston’s first road sweep since July 2024. Boston did its damage early, scoring four times in the opening inning off left-hander Shinnosuke Ogasawara, who was making his major-league debut. Nate Eaton singled and scored on Roman Anthony’s base hit, Rob Refsnyder doubled home another run and Trevor Story capped the rally with his 14th homer of the season. Left-hander Garrett Crochet limited Washington to two runs over five innings, striking out seven to improve to 9-4 while extending his major-league-leading total to 151 strikeouts. Jordan Hicks recorded the final three outs for his first save since joining Boston. Ceddanne Rafaela added insurance with a ninth-inning solo shot and three hits overall. Ogasawara, a 27-year-old former Chunichi Dragons standout who signed a two-year deal with Washington, allowed seven hits and four runs in 2⅔ innings and took the loss. The game was halted for 17 minutes by rain in the second inning, but the Nationals could not capitalise on 15 men left on base. The defeat drops Washington to 37-53, 16 games under .500 and last in the National League East.
Dodgers continue to be in a trance. Yamamoto doesn't make it out of first inning. 5-0 Brewers. And K. Hernandez is unavailable to pitch if it gets really bad. Oh well. Just a little losing streak.
