Major League Baseball said Wednesday that Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn has been elected the American League’s starting DH for the 2025 All-Star Game, set for July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta. O’Hearn topped New York Yankees rookie Ben Rice in the final phase of fan balloting that closed earlier in the day, securing his first career appearance in the Midsummer Classic and the Orioles’ first starting DH slot since Nelson Cruz in 2014. The selection caps a sharp turnaround for the 31-year-old, whom Baltimore acquired from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations in 2023. O’Hearn is hitting .295 with a .383 on-base percentage, .471 slugging, 11 home runs and 30 RBIs through 72 games, leading the Orioles in batting average and on-base percentage. Orioles rookie second baseman Jackson Holliday finished second to Detroit Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres in fan voting at his position and could still reach the All-Star roster as a reserve when pitchers and bench players are announced on July 6.
