Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema released the first full trailer for “Mortal Kombat II” at 9 a.m. Pacific on 17 July, giving audiences a blood-soaked look at the sequel to the 2021 video-game adaptation. The studio confirmed that the film will open in U.S. theaters and IMAX on 24 October 2025. The footage puts Karl Urban front and center as Johnny Cage, a washed-up Hollywood action star drawn into the inter-realm tournament that decides Earth’s fate. Joining him are franchise newcomers Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade and bodybuilder-actor Martyn Ford as the tyrant Shao Kahn. They fight alongside—or against—returning characters played by Lewis Tan, Hiroyuki Sanada, Jessica McNamee, Ludi Lin and others. Director Simon McQuoid and screenwriter Jeremy Slater again steer the property, promising game-accurate fatalities and a tournament that, in co-creator Ed Boon’s words, carries “huge consequences” for the combatants. The trailer’s release caps a week-long marketing push that included character posters and a tongue-in-cheek teaser for Cage’s fictional action flick, “Uncaged Fury.”
