Mariah Carey said she has finished recording her long-awaited sixteenth studio album, her first full-length release in eight years. Speaking during a live Apple Music broadcast in Culver City marking the service’s 10th anniversary, the 56-year-old singer confirmed the project contains 11 or 12 tracks and "some Mariah ballads." Carey added that a second single, which she described as "very summery," will arrive soon. The yet-untitled album follows May’s "Type Dangerous," issued through Larry Jackson’s Gamma imprint; the single sampled Eric B. & Rakim’s 1986 classic "Eric B. Is President" and became Carey’s 50th entry on the Billboard Hot 100. The forthcoming set will be Carey’s first since 2018’s "Caution" and her debut release under Gamma after leaving Epic Records. No release date was announced.
