Between June 20 and July 15, 2025, New York City subway service experienced multiple disruptions due to mechanical problems, brake activations, switch malfunctions, signal issues, and flooding across various lines and stations. Key incidents included repeated brake activations at locations such as 103 St, Atlantic Av-Barclays Center, 81 St-Museum of Natural History, Canal St, and others, leading to express runs, delays, and rerouting for B, C, D, N, Q, and other lines. Mechanical problems affected trains at Franklin Av, Gates Av, Avenue P, 238 St, and Broadway Junction, among others, resulting in temporary suspensions or removal of trains from service. Switch malfunctions and maintenance were reported near Myrtle Av, Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, Whitehall St-South Ferry, and Lafayette Av, causing suspensions and reroutes for A, C, J, and W trains. Signal malfunctions near 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 50 St, Burnside Av, and Prince St also contributed to delays and service changes. Emergency responses by NYPD, EMS, and FDNY were frequently requested for medical assistance or disruptive individuals on trains at locations including 14 St, Brook Av, Whitlock Av, Cypress Av, Grand St, and others. A major flooding event starting mid-July led to partial or full suspension of 1, 2, 3, 6, and Staten Island Railway services, particularly affecting Manhattan stations such as 96 St, 168 St-Washington Heights, and 28 St. Flooding also disrupted service in Queens and Brooklyn, notably impacting E, F, M, and R lines. Passengers were advised to use alternate routes and bus services where applicable, with the MTA app and website providing updates. Overall, the period was marked by frequent and widespread service interruptions across the NYC subway system due to a combination of mechanical failures, infrastructure maintenance, emergency incidents, and severe weather-related flooding.
