SpaceX is deploying its new Starlink Mini satellite terminals across all first-responder vehicles in Kerr County, Texas, after severe flooding disabled conventional radio and cellular networks in the region. Starlink Vice President Lauren Dreyer said the equipment would be installed on 5 July, giving emergency crews satellite-based voice and data links with headquarters and each other. Local authorities have struggled to coordinate rescues since floodwaters inundated the Hill Country county earlier this week, cutting power and damaging terrestrial communications towers. The compact terminals can be set up in minutes and draw power directly from vehicle outlets, providing line-of-sight connectivity to SpaceX’s low-Earth-orbit constellation. The rollout is the largest emergency deployment of Starlink Minis to date and follows previous ad-hoc uses of Starlink kits during disasters in Ukraine, Maui and Chile. County officials said the terminals are expected to remain in service through the recovery phase, ensuring persistent coverage while ground infrastructure is repaired.
