James Jones, a three-time NBA champion and former Phoenix Suns executive, has been appointed as the NBA's Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations. He succeeds Joe Dumars, who held the position since 2022. Jones retired from playing in 2017 and immediately joined the Suns' front office, where he contributed to the team's first postseason appearance in a decade, a franchise-record 64 wins, and an NBA Finals appearance. Meanwhile, Joe Dumars is leaving the NBA office to become the executive vice president of basketball operations for the New Orleans Pelicans. Dumars, a Hall of Famer, was seen courtside with Pelicans star Zion Williamson during the Summer League games.
