The Detroit Pistons have reached agreement to acquire free-agent sharpshooter Duncan Robinson from the Miami Heat in a sign-and-trade deal, according to multiple reports. Robinson, 31, will sign a three-year, $48 million contract after spending his first seven NBA seasons with Miami, where he became the franchise’s all-time leader in made three-pointers. Detroit is sending Italian wing Simone Fontecchio to the Heat as part of the transaction. Miami will generate a $6.9 million trade exception and move about $5.5 million below the league’s $207.8 million second luxury-tax apron while filling its 15-man roster. The agreement comes two days after Robinson declined a $19.9 million player option for 2025-26, electing unrestricted free agency to give both sides additional flexibility. Robinson averaged 11.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 74 games last season, shooting 39.3% from beyond the arc and bringing his career total to 1,202 triples. Detroit, which returned to the playoffs last season behind guard Cade Cunningham, views the former University of Michigan standout as a proven floor-spacer alongside fellow offseason addition Caris LeVert.
Duncan Robinson is going to go down as one of the best stories in Heat history. Division III at first, then undrafted ... to all over the record books. Pistons got better today, for certain. And yes, there will be a video when the Pistons come to town. Not even a debate.
