Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said Wednesday he has not decided whether Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter or incoming five-star freshman Julian Lewis will start at quarterback when the Buffaloes open fall camp. Speaking at Big 12 Media Days in Frisco, Texas, Sanders brought both players to the event, explaining that the competition remains open and that he is prepared to alternate the pair “as long as they’re doing their jobs and we’re winning.” The position became vacant after 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Shedeur Sanders exhausted his eligibility. Salter, who accounted for 40 total touchdowns at Liberty last season, offers immediate experience, while Lewis is regarded as one of the nation’s top recruits. Sanders said the program “can’t lose either way” and will use preseason practices to determine the depth chart.
