A primary-school teacher was seriously wounded in a stabbing on Wednesday evening during a year-end musical for eighth-grade pupils in Alblasserdam, a town near Rotterdam. The attack occurred at about 20:40 local time in cultural centre De Haven, where dozens of children and parents were attending the performance. Police said the victim was rushed to hospital by ambulance after a trauma helicopter landed near the venue. Eyewitnesses told local media that the teacher stepped between two men during an altercation when one of them produced a knife. Investigators believe the teacher was not the intended target. Officers cordoned off the area, questioned witnesses and detained one individual, though the suspected knifeman remains at large. Rotterdam police, who say they know the identity of the fugitive, have launched a manhunt and are examining the motive for the assault. Many children who witnessed the incident are being offered support.
