The Washington Commanders have locked up wide receiver Terry McLaurin on a three-year contract extension valued at more than $96 million, according to multiple league sources. The agreement carries a $30 million signing bonus and lifts the 29-year-old into the NFL’s top tier of earners at his position, with an average payout of roughly $32 million a season. McLaurin’s new deal ends a protracted standoff that included skipping mandatory minicamp, a training-camp “hold-in” and a trade request. He is expected to rejoin practice this week and suit up for the club’s Sept. 7 regular-season opener against the New York Giants, restoring quarterback Jayden Daniels’s No. 1 target. A third-round draft pick in 2019, McLaurin has topped 1,000 receiving yards in five consecutive seasons and posted 87 catches, 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns last year while helping Washington reach the NFC Championship Game. Retaining the two-time Pro Bowler solidifies an offense that also added wideout Deebo Samuel in March as the Commanders try to build on last season’s playoff run.
