A National Football League preseason game between the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium was suspended on Friday night after Lions safety Morice Norris Jr. sustained a head and neck injury early in the fourth quarter. The 24-year-old was struck in the helmet by the knee of Falcons running back Nathan Carter while making a tackle with 14:50 left. Medical staff treated Norris for about 20 minutes before an ambulance transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Play briefly resumed but both teams allowed the clock to run without running a play. With 6:31 remaining, officials formally called the game, leaving the Lions ahead 17-10. Coaches Dan Campbell of Detroit and Raheem Morris of Atlanta said they agreed continuing was inappropriate given the severity of the incident. The Lions said late Friday that Norris was in stable condition with feeling and movement in all extremities. On Saturday morning the second-year defensive back posted on social media, “Amen Amen… I’m all good,” thanking supporters and confirming the positive prognosis. Norris joined Detroit as an undrafted free agent in 2024 and appeared in eight regular-season games last year, primarily on special teams. The episode echoes other recent preseason cancellations following serious on-field injuries and is likely to fuel ongoing discussion around player safety protocols during exhibition games.
