The San Francisco 49ers lost two rookie defenders to injuries during their game on Saturday night, testing the club’s revamped depth chart early in the 2025 campaign. Linebacker Tatum Bethune, a seventh-round pick who opened the contest in place of All-Pro Fred Warner, exited in the second quarter after notching four tackles and was listed with an ankle injury. He was declared questionable and did not return. Safety Marques Sigle, the fastest player in this year’s rookie safety class and already a starter, followed Bethune to the locker room in the third quarter with a knee injury. Sigle had logged a team-high seven tackles before being ruled out. The 49ers, who overhauled their roster in the offseason, had been encouraged by early contributions from Bethune and Sigle. Their status will be monitored closely as San Francisco prepares for the remainder of the preseason and the regular-season opener.
