Newly appointed defensive coordinator Robert Saleh made an immediate impression in the San Francisco 49ers’ first preseason game, dialing up an aggressive blitz that produced a safety against the Denver Broncos on 10 August. Cornerback Chase Lucas broke through the Broncos’ protection to register the tackle in the end zone, giving the 49ers the first points of the contest. Saleh, who previously ran San Francisco’s defense from 2017-20, was seen exuberantly celebrating on the sideline after the play. The safety offered an early glimpse of the more attack-minded scheme Saleh is expected to install as he returns to the franchise for the 2025 season.
