Manuel Valls, France's Minister of State and Minister of Overseas Territories, commenced an official visit to French Polynesia with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument aux Morts in Papeete. During his visit, he engaged in discussions with Moetai Brotherson, President of French Polynesia, focusing on ongoing cooperation and shared projects aimed at the protection and development of the territory. Valls also met with Antony Géros, President of the Assembly of French Polynesia, and Oscar Temaru, President of the Tāvini Huira’atira party, to reaffirm the French state's commitment to respecting Polynesian institutions. His itinerary included visits to the Centre Maritime Commun in Arue, where he was briefed on rescue missions, exclusive economic zone surveillance, anti-trafficking, and pollution control efforts. At the Papeete naval base, Valls reviewed aerial resources deployed by the state in the region. He also boarded the overseas patrol vessel Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai, which has played a key role in maintaining an illegal fishing-free exclusive economic zone for at least 17 years. Additionally, Valls presided over a change of command ceremony at the RSMA (Military Service Adapted to Overseas) of French Polynesia, where Colonel Guillaume Nicloux officially assumed command.
