The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the schedule for the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), set to take place on July 21, 2025. The elections will fill 11 vacant seats in the upper house from the province. Following the allocation of reserved seats among political parties, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party may lose up to three seats in the KP Assembly's Senate elections. The opposition alliance is reportedly short of a simple majority by 20 members. There are ongoing disputes regarding the distribution of reserved seats, with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) filing a petition against the current seat allocation. Changes in the reserved seat distribution have altered the numerical strength within the KP Assembly. Political analysis suggests that if some PTI members break ranks and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) reaches a deal with the ruling coalition, the coalition could secure around five seats, potentially achieving a two-thirds majority in the Senate.
