The Supreme Court of Pakistan has upheld the Peshawar High Court's decision by a 7-6 majority to revoke the allocation of reserved seats previously granted to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The reserved seats were reallocated to other political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI). This ruling potentially grants the government a two-thirds majority. PTI has declared the decision unconstitutional. Following the ruling, the Punjab Assembly Speaker suspended 26 opposition members, primarily from PTI, for disrupting assembly proceedings, leading to legal proceedings for their potential disqualification. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the reserved seats oath-taking session faced delays due to lack of quorum and PTI members' absence. The Peshawar High Court appointed the KP Governor to administer the oath, which was eventually taken by 25 members. The KP Senate elections are scheduled with PTI facing internal divisions and opposition challenges. The KP Governor and opposition leaders have indicated that the Senate elections are a rehearsal for a no-confidence motion against the provincial government. Meanwhile, judicial appointments have been made with Justice Atiq Shah sworn in as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court, Justice Sarfraz Dogar as Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Justice Junaid Ghafar as Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, and Justice Rozi Khan Barich as Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court. The Election Commission has received the Supreme Court's decision on reserved seats, and the political landscape is adjusting accordingly.
